Auto Technology
Auto Technology is an ever-changing career field. Students are taught on the most up-to-date equipment and learn the basics required to go directly to work or continue with technical education. Nearly all of the work is hands-on with 90% of a student’s time spent in the auto shop.

Auto Technology I
Credits: 2
Prerequisite: None

This course provides instruction on the components, systems, repairs and maintenance on modern automobiles. Students will learn to identify parts, explain system operations, perform problem diagnosis and complete service operations on electrical systems, braking systems, steering systems and suspensions and engine and transmission systems. Basic math skills, and an appropriate reading level are required to interpret the amount of technical information and reference material used. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be qualified for entry-level employment in quick service business and continuing education in Auto Technology II. A valid driver’s license is required.
Auto Technology II
Credits: 2
Prerequisites: Auto Technology I

Students learn advanced skills in the auto servicing industry. Emphasis is placed on computerized diagnostics and specialized repair areas. This hands-on course allows students to learn and repair major vehicle systems including fuel, electrical, suspension, brakes and drive train systems. Upon successful completion, students will be prepared to take and pass the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification and may be qualified for entry-level employment at a garage or dealership.
Auto Technology III – Work Based Learning
Credits: 1
Grades 11- 12
Site: DCCTC
Prerequisite: Student must have completed Auto Technology I & II at DCCTC as well as have a satisfactory instructor recommendation.
Students who have completed Auto Technology I & II at DCCTC and desire work experience in the field may choose to further enhance their skills by enrolling in our work based learning course. Students will learn daily duties and participate in on-site training. Students must provide their own transportation to work sites.
